Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
With its luminous depth, the 2021 Hurst Vineyard Pinot Noir erupts into the nose with plum, raspberry, star anise and coriander. Upon first sip, one is immersed in deep juicy fruit tones of pomegranate and red pluot. Coffee spices adorn the long soft finish.
Vineyard Notes
This vineyard was established in 1999 and has been part of our portfolio for many vintages. Hurst Vineyard is located in the Sebastopol Hills area of the Russian River Valley, comprised of talcum-like Goldridge soil, and benefits from the rush of cool marine air from the Pacific Ocean that comes through the northern edge of the Petaluma Gap. The vineyard straddles a ridge comprised of a steep northwest facing slope planted to Pommard 5 clone and a southeast oriented slope of 115 and 777 clones, all of which are skillfully cultivated by Arturo Robeledo Jr. and owner Ben Hurst.
Production Notes
Grapes at Hurst Vineyard are harvest in the early morning hours while the vineyard still lay immersed in fog. Upon arrival at the winery, grapes are sorted and destemmed into bins and dumped into tank. After a 5 day cold soak, three punchdowns per day are utilized during fermentation. As for all of our Pinots, the wine is barreled down directly from the fermenter, and stirring occurs bi monthly for 3 months. Barrels chosen for Hurst bring out its natural silky texture and brilliance of red cherry and acid. The wine is bottled the following July.
