Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
Our first release of the varietal, our 2023 Pellegrini Grenache emits into the nose perfumes of plum, juniper, all spice, and leather. The experience on the palette is structured with mouth filling tannins, but pretty and red toned on the front of the tongue, highlighted by raspberry, baking spices, and hints of licorice.
Vineyard Notes
These Grenache grapes are sourced from both Dry Creek and Russian River Valleys. A small portion of these grapes were grown right here at Olivet Lane, hailing from our experimental block of new red varietals. To round out a varietal specific wine, we were introduced to another old vine Grenache vineyard in the hills of eastern Dry Creek Valley. The owners of the Anax Vineyard grow a full assortment of the traditional Rhone varieties. The block of Grenache runs southeast to northwest, with a soil horizon running through the middle point of the vineyard, more clay to the north, and more gravel to the south. Because of that, different pieces of the block bring with them different flavor profiles, rich deep fruit from the northern edge of the block, and more spice and structure from the southern portion. When brought together, they form for a special mélange of flavor profiles, unique to the site.
Production Notes
Grapes are harvested early in the morning, and arrive at the winery in the cool fog of fall, where they are hand sorted, destemmed 100%, and sent to their fermentation vessel. After a two day cold soak and inoculation, minimal cap management is utilized on Grenache, just one punchdown a day, in order to manage tannins. Nearing the end of fermentation, pumpovers replaced the punchdowns, until it’s press date after 12 days on skins. After basket pressing skins, the wine was homogenized and sent to barrel.
Food Pairing Notes
Falafel wraps with babaganoush and fresh vegetables, or chicken paprikash.
